Creating at night

I can be such a night owl at times. There is something about
creating when everyone in my world is fast asleep. I think it
might be due to the possibility that I should have been born
in another time zone. Who knows? In general, I tend to have
more energy/inspiration at this time, where my imagination has
a mind of its own. So what does one do when they have that
creative urge...

This time I decided to paint. I found some chipboards that have
been laying about for quite some time. I think I only used them
twice since I bought them last year. So I decided to punch some
holes, grab a few binder rings and just have fun.

This is my work in progress so far. It's definitely not going to be
a one nighter project, so we'll have to see how it goes.

Of course, inspiration can hit me anytime of the
day, but the night for me brings so much more
to the imagination. When do you enjoy creating
the most? I'd love to know.

Thanks so much for all your touching comments on
my last post! Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

Happy Friday Hugs,
Lisa :)

  2. Wow you sure do create beautiful stuff at night!

I am a night owl to, I think for me I work best when my kids are in their beds safe and asleep, there is no 'road noise' outside and all is well, it's so much more peaceful then. In the day I am too distracted by my thoughts of what my kids are doing at school is my hubby stressed at work? is the phone going to ring if I start something now/ etc, night time is so much calmer!

  8. Lisa, you create such beautiful faces, and are such an inspiration to me, this girl is perfection, I love the subtle shading. How on earth did you paint her on chip board ? Do you have to prep it first?

I am not a night owl at all, I am best in the afternoon when the sun is shining in my room, and on dull days I can't seem to create anything. Funny how we are all so different.

  9. Well she's starting out beautifully...my business partner is a night owl as well. She finds most of her creativeness when the world is quiet and still. As for me...mine is after I've had a very peaceful night sleep, but not until after I've had my coffee. But I do have to say there are times when I can't sleep, my creative juices do flow. I can't wait to see the final project.

    Have a great weekend too!

    Bright blessings,
    Kathy

  11. Wow, Lisa - this is really beautiful. It looks like a "night" piece in that the background is dark and has a dream quality to it. And the girl looks as though she is deeply involved in her dreams. I create any time of day - I don't think there's one particular time that suits me. Whenever the urge strikes! LOL Have a wonderful weekend, Theresa

I love creating at night too. After coming from work I have to help my dislectic daughter with school work. But when night comes it's my time to create :)

  14. Hi Lisa - the girl in this painting is beautiful - love love love her gorgeous face!

I too am at my most creative between the hours of 10pm and 3am - with a hubby, two kids, a massive farm and all the little jobs in between to take care of, my creativity only comes awake when I should be asleep LOL - we do what we have to for our art, thats for sure, even if it means a bit of 'sleep deprivation' :D

Cheers and all the best, Val

  16. Lisa you've excelled yourself with this beauty, I think her face is my favourite of all the ones I've seen that you've created. :-)
B.C. (Before (c)kids) I was a night owl but now I've had it by midnight. I've not turned into a morning person either :-(
Still any creative time is better than nothing!

  20. Hi Sweetie!

SHE IS SOOO GORGEOUS!!! Lisa, I'm so in love with the way you paint your girlies! Your shadowing is fantastic, and your faces are so beautiful! ... such a pretty background too!

I'm a night owl also. It's so nice to be able to sit and play, without all the interruptions that come during the day! I wish I didn't have to sleep!

    Wishing you more nightly playtime!

    Many xoxo's Paulette :) :) :)

  21. What a peaceful and lovely expression on your painted face. I'm amazed that you can create late at night. As soon as the sun goes down, my energy level also drops and my brain turns to mush. However, in the morning after getting in my zz's I'm all revved-up to go. Funny how we all have different rhythms.

  23. Hi Lisa,
I've just popped over from Val's blog. Love your paintings. This one is just beautiful and mysterious in a way.
I'm not a night person, despite my partying 5 1/2 year old best efforts LOL, but it certainly works great for you.

  26. I am a complete and utter night owl. During the work week, I get by on 4 and a half hours' sleep. I'm never truly awake until lunch time. I write, and do my writing in the evening heading into midnight. It's the daytime world that makes life difficult! What is with them...

  27. Blessings to you Lisa!
I like to create any free moment I have ~ but I am at my creative best in late afternoon and early evening. I have burned the midnight oil too. But I have ruined many a piece by staying up and being to "out of it" when I am finishing a piece. Happy Spring!!!

  30. She is beautiful...there is a sadness in her eyes...
'I think it might be due to the possibility that I should have been born in another time zone.' Do you know, I've never thought about it this way. Maybe it is why some of us could work till the wee hours and then sleep in till late. Life is interesting isn't it.
You know Lisa you have the most beautiful spirit that shines through everything you do...
